Today we saw some of the most outstanding homes available in Walnut Creek.
The first home is literally walking distance to downtown Walnut Creek at 1747 San Miguel Dr, just off Mt Diablo Blvd (go have lunch on the top floor patio at Nordstroms ... just a 10 minute walk from this gorgeous home). Priced at $1,595,000 with just under 2400 sf and 5 bedrooms (better as a 4 bedroom plus an office), 3 full baths, this home features top of the line everything, including a top notch esthetic, a huge great room with a wonderfully appointed kitchen, a ton of led recessed lights and windows on all walls. One of the truly unique features of this home is the sense that you are in a contemporary, walled Italian villa... the home is literally recessed into the hill with a rear courtyard that is perfect for outdoor dining. Some may find the courtyard a challenge because most of your plants will have to be in pots. As for me, pots with lots of color and texture on a drip system are perfect ... the only thing I'd change is the color of the courtyard wall to coordinate better with the home's interior color scheme. This is a wonderful house... that will bring years of enjoyment for the right person or family ... you should check it out.
The location of the second home we checked out was a stark contrast to the walled villa. This is an unassuming single story ranch style with the most AWESOME several hundred year old Oak Tree in the front yard (Oaks are native to the area but don't like a lot of irrigation around their root system ... a drought tolerant landscape plan may be more suitable under the tree than the grass that is there now). Situated on a low ridgeline in Walnut Heights at 225 Gerry Ct, you will enjoy panoramic views across the valley from the huge, 2 level backyard (the upper one is perfect for dining and drinking in the view on a warm summer afternoon, while the lower are is great for everything else. Priced at $1,349,000 with over 2500 sf ... this home has been opened up and totally updated and remodeled with top quality finish materials. A big plus for this home is the knoll-top location with a double cul-de-sac ... virtually all level and a terrific place to gather and enjoy the neighbors. The third place we looked at was 1307 Corte de los Vecinos, in the Tampico townhouse development near John MUir Hospital. Priced at $650,000 this single story, 1424 sf townhouse has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a spacious backyard and a central atrium. It has been remodeled as a flip (it was purchased, remodeled and is now back on the market). The home looks nice as you walk in and the finish materials are reasonable, but not exciting. The main elements working for this home are the convenient floor plan, the low HOA dues (under $300) and the proximity to the hospital and the open space and canal trail systems
Next, we went to a very nicely updated, remodeled and slightly expanded Eichler at 256 San Antonio. Priced at $1,049,000, this 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 1835 sf Eichler was brought into the 21 st century without losing the essence of the Eichler design. The Living room, kitchen, and dining/family space were opened up to create an inviting and very serviceable great room with the kitchen acting as the logical hub for family and entertaining. There were a couple of modest additions in the bedroom wing that helped with the utilization of the spaces, especially the bathrooms and the laundry. A big plus ... the radiant heating system still works beautifully as we noticed while walking through without shoes on (that did point out that the space added on did NOT have radiant heating). This home is light and bright and maintains most of the Eichler style and for those who love Eichlers this one may work well.
Out in Northgate we hit 3704 Northgate Woods Ct. Now priced at $2,298,000. This is a home for someone who wants a big, impressive place. With a huge circular drive and a detached 5 car garage it starts out impressively. Upon entering this gracious two story the entry is flanked by a large office/parlor/library on the left and the formal living room on the right with the large formal dining room beyond. There is an oversized family room off the kitchen that also opens to the backyard and pool ... and could easily serve as a lanai / pool house / dance floor for large scale gatherings. The Master Suite is on the ground floor while the other bedrooms are on the second floor. The home has over 5600 sf with a 40,000 + sf lot.
231 Rosa Corte off Venado Camino is a classic 5 bedroom, ranch style home priced at $1,125,000. Next, over to the West side of the freeway to El Dorado Park off Putnam at 3149 McNutt Avenue where we found a delightful 3 bedroom, 1 bath bungalow with a big back yard and a detached 2 car garage. Priced at $739,000 this is a great home to get yourself into the housing market while interest rates remain low and your payment is less than you'll pay for an apartment in Walnut Creek.
The final home in Walnut Creek was 2034 Mallard Dr in the Larkey Park neighborhood of Walnut Creek. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath single story home is on a flag lot so the home is set way off the street and enjoys a lot of privacy. The home is across the street from Contra Costa Christian School (k - 12) and just minutes to the freeway and BART as well as the Larkey Pool, a city facility currently being completely re-built.
